Last month we announced the ForeGolf Hakusa Wedges, read about the launch of the new wedges
This is how we custom built wedges for John

Handicap 1
Playing Location Augusta National
Playing Characteristic John is a great ball striker and can hit the ball quite high. We needed a 120 yard wedge so we made the White 50* to handle this distance, accuracy is key at Augusta so this wedge is geared around that exact yardage with lots of check spin. The Black wedge is bent to 58* and has a special grind that we do by hand where the back of the wedge is ground away and the front edge is made sharper. The heel of the wedge is also flattened out and the bounce is lowered to allow John to slide the club under the ball and float the shot from the approaches and bunkers onto the very fast greens of Augusta National.
Custom Fit Technician Dave Williams
Club Builder Derek Murray

Once we finish the fitting, I pick the best two heads to suit the course and John's angle of attack for each of the wedge shots and yardages he wants.

I grind the sole and heel of the 58* to allow him to slide the club under the ball and allow him to float the ball softly onto the greens at Augusta National.

You have to keep checking the “flow” of the sole to make sure the grind is consistent and true.

The 51* gets a little off the toe, heel and front edge to allow John to get more aggressive with the strike and hit the ball earlier for increased spin.

I pick a True Temper Spinner shaft for more kick in the tip, a better weight balance and a truer feel throughout the swing. More feel = closer pitch shots.

The shaft tip is prepped by scoring it on the belt sander strip and rub off the chrome finish so as I can get a good solid bond with the glue.

The ferrule is fitted onto the shaft and check the hosel for the right depth and depth.

The club is measured on our club ruler to customize the length of the clubs, which is relative to how far they will go and is matched his iron setup. Check twice and cut once!!

The shaft is cut to the precise length

The end burrs are rubbed off to help avoid and sharp edges once the grip goes on and to double check the exact length.

The exact amount of glue is mixed up from a part A and part B shaft epoxy and glue to shaft to the head. This takes 24 hours to set in a special heat controlled gluing room.

The Lie of the club is matched to John's irons and individually bent by hand to the correct loft settings of 51* and 58* so the ball will go the required 120 yards and 50 yards.

We then put on the grip to match his irons and clean down the clubs and the two ForeGolf custom wedges are ready to go.

Prices start at €155 per wedge - completely custom made to suit you.

If you're an existing customer, we can build them using your notes on file (in most cases)

A 30 minute custom fitting analysis (wedges) costs €50

A 1 hour full bag custom fitting analysis (every club) costs €100

If you want to be a better golfer then you need clubs that are not only custom fitted but also built by ForeGolf to exact measurements in our WorkShop - just like Patrick

You might have seen our TV advert, made with the help of AIB. We took four golfers and fitted them the exact same way Derek and Dave do everyday, except in front of a full camera crew. All the golfers used a test club during the session (just like a normal customer) then by the following week they got clubs that were hand built in our workshop.

We wanted to show the full story behind the TV advert so here's why Patrick wanted to be involved, what difficulty he had with his current clubs, what he hoped to achieve and how we made him a better golfer.

What happened during his session

Patrick had driver trouble, big driver trouble.

The shaft he had in his old Titleist driver was an Aldila VS Proto 65 and has a very high torque (the tip is very soft, made the head unstable at impact leaving the strikes in the face very inconsistent and mostly heel side). This meant he struggled with accuracy off the tee and his driver always put him into trouble. Patrick could swing it quite well with plenty of energy. His swing speed was high but the old club wasted all this speed by turning over when he hit the ball and all his shots went low, mostly left and in the rough.

What we built him to make him a better golfer

So we needed to fix his accuracy off the tee and build him a club to help him hit more fairways.

First we needed to stabilize the head so we tested a few much stiffer tipped shafts. The results were instant with him hitting the ball in the centre of the club more and the ball stopped hooking immediately. We grabbed the new Titleist 910 D3 head and screwed in a Miyazaki Kusala Black X Flex shaft with a much lower torque and stiffer tip to keep the head even more stable. We also wanted to maximise his speed so a lightweight 61 gram shaft was used, when the shaft is lightweight we can go to X Flex to get explosive distance off the driver.

Once we got the ball flight more consistent off the face and with the shaft managing the swing energy more efficiently we started to see quite an big increase in distance.

He hit it on average 40 yards longer and now arrow straight.

We'll be sharing the full story of each of the golfers over the coming weeks.

If you missed the advert on TV, you can watch it here

Want to see the full story of other golfers from the tv advert

Interested in the behind the scenes footage and how the advert made with the help of AIB

Thanks again AIB and everyone who had a hand in making our ForeGolf mini-documentary

There are a few things we couldn't live without, our iPhones are one of them. From the appointment diary, reminder lists for orders, tweeting the workshop build schedule and checking emails, our phones are never far from us. Now with the great people over at Otterbox, keeping them safe from harm in the workshop is a thing of the past.

One of the eagle eyed Otterbox crew spotted us taking photos and tweeting from the workshop and reckoned we were in need of a cover to keep our phones safe from the knocks and tumbles of club building. They sent us an email asking what type of iPhone we used and sent us a selection of their iPhone covers.

The have a full range of different iPhone covers, like the Commuter, the Reflex, the Impact and for serious protection the Defender Series.

We'd like to share the love and since we only need one, we'd like to offer the rest to our ForeGolf friends. We have a range of covers to give away in a range of colours.

Some of the most commonly asked questions asked at our custom fitting sessions ... relates to wedges.

Q Why are there so many lofts like 48*, 50*, 52*, 54*, etc.?
Q I'm confused, how far my wedges should go?
Q How can I play different shots with the same wedge?
Q What is the best make of wedge for me?
Q Can I get a wedge that feels soft, stops quick and is easy to hit?

It was time to try and give our clients an easier way to develop their short game. Derek, Dave and Don spent countless lunch-hours and tea breaks mashing together their ideas. We all agreed that there are a lot of “grey areas” when it came to wedge choice so here is what we believe is the answer to all those questions ... The ForeGolf Wedges

Our customers said that different lofts that relate to how far they hit the ball are too hard to remember. We also found golfers had too many wedges, making distance control more confusing, so we took the numbers off the club heads. Instead we went with two colours on the back of the head.

A Black Wedge that goes short

A White Wedge that goes long

Its simple, we bend the wedge loft to suit how far you want it to go and you end up with two circles of distance.

The smaller circle is for the Black Wedge where you use it to chip with, flick it out of the bunkers and hit crisp, soft, flop shots around the green.

The larger outer circle is where you hit the White Wedge and becomes your full chip shot with added control as you know exactly how far it goes. It's also great for chip and run shots and thanks to special grooves it gets great spin from every lie.

We then custom grind the sole to suit exactly the way you hit the ground and for the courses you are likely to play on. We can also adapt the grind to allow you to play shots with more spin or with lower bounce to allow you links golfers to slide the club cleanly under the ball.

We wanted the wedges to be the best you can get steel wise to make them feel really soft. We looked around at every type of steel and how wedges were made. We eventually got talking to the famous Japanese club manufacturer Hakusa who agreed to help us make the softest, most consistent wedges in the world. Hand forged with a single piece of the purest S25C Carbon steel, these heads are the best quality available.

We then tested every wedge shaft on the market, picked the best of the best and have a number of different shaft options again to suit the different golfers style, shot and spin requirements.

Available now, prices start at €155 per wedge, completely custom made to suit you.

Phone 045 430660 to order your wedges
or to book a custom fitting analysis

If you've already been custom fitted at ForeGolf we can build them using your notes on file (in most cases)

A 30 minute custom fitting analysis (wedges only) costs €50

A 1 hour full bag custom fitting analysis (every club) costs €100

When it comes to the ForeGolf Wedges, there are no grey areas in your short game.
It's simply Black and White

Hi Derek,

It was great to meet you too. I had a wonderful experience at ForeGolf, probably one of the best golfing experiences I have had. I learned loads about equipment and even more about my golf swing (that was an added bonus). I should also mention it was wonderful to get the warm Irish welcome from your Mum at the reception. She really put me at my ease which mean I was nice and relaxed when it came to the testing and hitting balls.

Fair play Derek you are one of the good guys and you have a great business in ForeGolf. Looking forward to the delivery and to a great summer of golf. I'll keep you posted.

Kind Regards,

John C

We recently got an email from Darren M and he gave the best piece of advice we could give people who book a custom fitting analysis.

“ Just a quick email to say thank you. I am now hitting the ball straighter and longer and after this wonderful experience in your top of the range facility I have vowed never to buy a golf club from a retail outlet ”

Wise words that unfortunately don't feature is another customer’s story ....

Two months ago, we had a nice guy come see us for a full bag custom fitting analysis. He’s a good solid 12 handicapper. We assessed him and recommended Mizuno Irons with Nippon 950GH Stiff shafts. He went away to think about it and managed to get what he thought was the same Mizuno Irons with Nippon shafts, for a really low price (€95 less). In theory the shafts and heads were the same as we had recommended so he bought them.

Skip forward two months and we got a fairly irate phone call from the same guy who had himself all up in a bunch, he couldn’t hit the clubs. Although we had recommended we would build them for him, he had bought them elsewhere. We asked him to come back to see if we could we help him. We found that although he bought the correct club heads and shafts, they were not built and balanced to suit him.

Problem No 1
The irons were not balanced or swing-weighted correctly. They were too light in head weight which meant the swingweight was C9 and should have been D2. He felt no rhythm with the clubs and struggled to get any “hit” from them.

What it means:
The golfer could not feel the head and struggled to play half shots. The balance of the club is also linked to the golfers rhythm. The spin on the ball was too low as the shaft was not loading or flexing correctly as the head was light. The golfer struggled with 8, 9 and PW especially as the shaft felt too stiff or “dead “when hit with a head that was too light.

Problem No 2
The loft and lie angles had not been specified so were too weak and too flat. He was hitting them shorter in distance and missing to the right.

What it means:
The loft was 2 degrees too weak which meant the ball flight had too much spin from the head so it spun up towards the end of the flight leaving each iron shot short in distance and with no penetration. The lie angle was out 2 degrees and was too flat which meant the toe of the club hit the ground first at impact and made the ball fly right of target. For every degree the lie is out and away from centre the ball will miss the target by approx. 8 yards.

So, don’t be confused with the terms custom fitted and custom built. It is important to remember if you are going to be custom fitted by us, you have to follow through and get the clubs hand built in our WorkShop so we can match what we have measured you for.

It’s not enough to pick a set up and assume that the measurements are right or even “standard” because a website says so or a guy behind the counter says so. The clubs have to be built with zero tolerances by hand in the ForeGolf WorkShop.

PS He got his clubs rebuilt, he’s had two months of awful golf and he had to pay for the work to fix what he thought was a great idea at the time.

.

You might have seen our new TV advert recently, made with the help of AIB

We took four golfers and fitted them the exact same way we do everyday, except in front of a full camera crew. No one had a script, the film crew stood back and filmed what Derek and Dave do every day. The only sequence shortened is the length of time it takes to hand build the club in our workshop. All the people were fitted using a test clubs, then we built them an exact performing replica the following week .

We wanted to show the full story behind the TV advert so here's why Vinny wanted to be involved, what difficulty he had with his current clubs, what he hoped to achieve and how we made him a better golfer.

If you want to be a better golfer then you need clubs that are not only custom fitted
but also built by ForeGolf to exact measurements in our WorkShop - just like Vinny

What happened during his session
When Vinny stood up to hit the ball it was easy to spot that his posture was crouched and uncomfortable. His current clubs were just too short and too flexible for him. The short club made him hit the ball with a steep swing angle causing big divots and high, short ball flight. The regular flex also made it impossible for Vinny to keep it consistently straight.

What we built him to make him a better golfer
We built him longer clubs with lighter, stiffer Nippon steel shafts which allowed him to stand taller with much better posture. He then stayed tall and turned his shoulders instead of picking the club up because he could. He then hit the ball cleaner, straighter and further.

Longer clubs with lighter stiffer steel shafts for Vinny = much better golf.

Sorted.

We'll be sharing the full story of each of the golfers from the TV advert over the coming weeks.

If you missed the advert on TV, you can watch it here

Take a look at the behind the scenes footage of our advert made with the help of AIB

Thanks again AIB and everyone who had a hand in making our ForeGolf mini-documentary

Seamus has been coming to see us for quite awhile now, we've been looking after his equipment since he was 11 years old.

This very likeable West Waterford man now plays in the USA full time and he was in ForeGolf in January to have his irons completely rebuilt with a more stable shaft. His loft and lie angles were redone to get the better control on the spin of the ball and more consistent distances. We also reset his wedge lofts and bounce angle grind to get him better, crisper contact with the ball.

All this pre-season work has really paid off with Seamus's first win as a full time professional. It's another great result this year from one of our Irish professionals and proves that ForeGolf really are building better golfers.

It’s hard to pin point how much your new clubs will cost because we need to see you and assess what you need first and then we can give an exact cost. That’s largely what the fitting session is designed to do, so we can see what you do, what the ball does and where we can make changes to your equipment to bring improvement.

We assume you have decided to visit us because you are thinking of changing your clubs or you are not enjoying your golf and want to improve your handicap. It is so important that you come to see us with the mindset that you are going to invest in your game. In order to get the very most from your session, you should follow through and get the clubs we recommend otherwise you won’t see the true benefit of what we do. The last thing we want is your visit to be a wasted opportunity to be a better golfer.

We have a number of different brands, models, shafts and grips that can affect the prices. We want you to get the very best from the equipment we build for you and will only let you invest in clubs that will see a noticeable improvement in your game and in turn lower your handicap.

As a guide you should expect to invest:

Custom fitting analysis
1 hour session €100 (every club in your bag)

Irons:

Putting on grips might sound straight forward but in true ForeGolf style we've turned it into an art-form. Straight grips means square club-heads and square faces means straight shots.

We had our gripping station specially built in Japan and its entirely pneumatically operated with two foot pedals. One pedal controls the air clamp to hold the club securely in place and the other pedal forces grip solvent into the grip to make it easy to slide on. The square lines on the footplate and the red see through paddle over the top of the grip makes sure every grip goes on perfectly straight, every time. All this extra effort means there's one less thing wrong and our golfers keep hitting fairways and greens, another ForeGolf result.

We work mostly with Golf Pride Grips, who claim to have more major wins than any other grip company. More than 80% of Tour professionals choose to play with Golf Pride grips and not one is paid to do so

The Tour Velvet, a rubber blend for maximum comfort is the most popular standard grip. Available in black

The Multicompound, a mixture of rubber and cord for all weather control. Available in white/black, red/black and blue/black.

As it’s the only contact you will have with the club, the grip must be the right texture and size. If your grips feel hard and are cracked in any way or if you can see wear marks in the rubber, then it’s time to change them.

Remember, your clubs will feel and play like a new set with new grips. There are many different sizes of grips to suit your hand size. Do you know what size grip you should be playing? ForeGolf can help.

Its been a great weekend for ForeGolf clubs with one of our most recent visitors Shane Lowry bagging a top 10 finish and €25K while another one of our Irish Tour players Niall Turner took a 3rd place finish out on the Asian Tour.

.

.

Niall Turner at Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic

We've been working with Niall for nearly 10 years now and even shipped specially made irons and wedges out to USA when he was in college. Coming up with clever solutions to his ball flight problems so he can swing the way he wants to.

Niall is 6ft 5 and his clubs must be made longer and lighter to suit his posture and swing plane. We adjusted the lie angles of his irons which have to be custom spaced to suit the shaft length and flex. We also designed specific loft on his iron settings to manage his spin and yardage control. This keeps his ball flight consistent and accurate.

ForeGolf makes sure our Irish golfers have the best fitted and hand built equipment to allow them to not only compete at the highest level but win against the best in the world.

We recently helped out Irish International golfer Niall Gorey who posted this just two weeks after we tweaked his irons and built him a new driver and 3 wood

"@Foregolfcustom Thanks Big D. World Ranking pre-ForeGolf 820 position. Post-ForeGolf 135 position."

Thats an incredible 685 places in 2 weeks.

Niall told us to step in and build his clubs whatever way we thought was best for him. Two weeks later he was Ireland's No.1 amateur golfer.

Niall knows the importance of the right clubs to suit him but also the importance of having the right people build the clubs. The fitting is only a part of this story, the quality of the build and having each club handmade perfectly is what produces the end results. Niall put his complete trust in us and just told us to “Do whatever you guys need to do, you guys are the experts”.

As we're busy custom fitting and building golf clubs, all the other people here at Killeen Castle go about their day. Mark Collins who is the Course Superintendent called by to let us know about some work scheduled at the long game academy. He told us the Golf & Estate Maintenance team are busy finishing off the bunker drainage work, making sure there aren't inconsistencies in sand texture.

Mark obviously feels the same about the course as we do about clubs, the pride he takes in his job speaks volumes. He told us when he gets the chance he goes out and plays but to be fair, it sounds like he's still working. "It’s amazing what you don’t see as a green keeper but notice as a golfer. It could be anything from a lot of divots in a landing area so we would have to change the tee position so the landing area changes. Areas of native grass that are to long close to landing areas or greens that require mowing more regularly. Depth of sand in bunkers "

This all goes down in a notebook and then into a plan of action for him and his team to work on. We asked what the schedule has in store in the coming weeks. Mark says "we've identified holes 5 to 9 as the area on the course that slows play a lot. This year we will mow more native grass on these holes and on busy days we will set these holes up as easy as possible."

So who better to ask for an insider tip to play Killeen Castle, although, he did admit to learning one of these the hard way.

Mark reckons "the course plays longer than it looks or reads through a laser. Hole 10 looks straight forward but for some reason plays very difficult all the time. This is due to players not releasing that the second shot is up hill and the green is slightly elevated, so nearly every comes up short".

We took a trip around with Mark and he pointed out all the areas they were going to be working on. You have to admit its a stunning course, when you next play a round its with thanks to the hard work of Mark, Robert, David, Paul, Francis, Karl, Tommy and Brian of the Golf & Estate Maintenance Team

If you're thinking of playing soon and want to do some research ahead of your game, go to the Killeen Castle website where you can see a 3d fly-by of each hole.
For Shane, it's always good to have what we call "the 3rd eye" looking over things and with our independency across the brands, we can give some straight answers and honest feedback. We tested quite a few theories and are building a few clubs over the coming weeks before he heads back out on Tour.

We have a few ideas on making his life on the course easier and coming up with some solid ball flight solutions.

The complete range of Taylor Made Select-Fit components arrived so we now are fully stocked with all the new R11s and Rocketballz heads. After all our testing for Golf Digest, we've decided on the the shafts we want to use and they are going alot further than the standard options.

The other big delivery (quite literally) was the Cobra Big Gig, and big it was. This very special Cobra fitting system is the only one in Ireland and one of only a handful worldwide. Cobra Golf picked ForeGolf as one of the worlds ultimate fitting locations and one of only 6 in Europe worthy of their monster selection of shafts and heads.

The Big Gig allows our customers the ultimate Cobra fitting and the new Amp range of driver, fairway, rescue and iron with it's strong styling and long hitting, it's definitely one of the best products we have seen for 2012.

Some of our customers decided to let us know just how good our clubs are and posted up on Facebook some of their own triumphs.

These are ForeGolf customers who know first hand that clubs built in our workshop are the fastest way to lower scores. If you invest in clubs built by ForeGolf, you can watch the handicap drop and the trophy cabinet grow.

Our mate Georgie Nish who looks after Cobra and Puma in Ireland dropped by last week to give us some great news. Rickie Fowler had signed up to not only wear Puma but he would be playing Cobra clubs for 2012.

That was good news in itself but the good word continues, ForeGolf was picked as one of only a handful of Cobra stockists worldwide and the only place in Ireland who will have the Cobra Golf BIG GIG. In our mad world of club-fitting is the absolute off the planet bit of kit. The Big Gig is the most comprehensive fitting selection of clubs and shafts from Cobra.

We've been told it will be landing in ForeGolf mid February

Stay in touch with our Twitter and Facebook page for updates

When Dave and Derek worked on Tour, the whole game revolved around "The Stats". The dreaded numbers that tell how good (or bad) the player is scoring. Well, there are a few cool on-line apps where you can input your scores and after each month or at the end of the year you can view your own stats. One of our customers G Woods sent us this great email to show us his very positive numbers.

If you ever wanted to know just how much of a difference ForeGolf clubs can make .... here are some hard, fast, concrete facts.

It turns out that the trusted Callaway driver that Gmac has used for the past few years on Tour finally gave up the ghost and split in half on the 17th yesterday in Abu Dhabi. The Callaway head is made with fused titanium and carbon fibre and the seam where they join just gave way and the driver literally broke in half. Great news it seems for his sponsors Cleveland Golf as he immediately put the new Cleveland Classic driver into the bag.

Graeme McDowell tweeted from the course yesterday at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship

@Graeme_McDowell Played beautifully today. Controlled the ball well. No joy on greens. Then my driver cracked! Hit it 200y out of middle on 17 - aqua #double

So we tweeted him to see if he was putting the new Cleveland Tour Classic in the bag and he came back to us with:

@Graeme_McDowell RT @Foregolfcustom Never happened to me before, cracking my driver like that. The head just came apart. >>Whoops mate, Callaway out-Cleveland in >>

Just in time too as the new Cleveland Classic and Classic Tour drivers are on the way for fitting here at ForeGolf. We'll let you know when they land ....

I got custom fitted with yourselves in December 2010 and was playing off a handicap of 10. I got Cleveland CG7 Tour Irons, Launcher DST 20.5* Hybrid and 15* 3 wood. Only members can access rewards like this. All you have to do, is tell someone they should play with clubs built by the World Clubmaker of the Year.

Its members only, so the golf ball selector image is blurred and you need a password to download it.

Seeing as we know everything there is to know about shafts, heads and clubs in general it made sense to us to relate all this information to the golf ball. If we know what club suits you then we needed to know what ball will suit the club?

So, we measured every decent ball there is out there, related it to club head speed and overall performance and matched that to the specific club head and shaft. We then developed a guide to find the best ball to suit you and your fitted club to help you get the best from you and your new golf clubs.

All you need is your ball speed and spin rate that you generated at your fitting and then follow the guide to get the best ball.

How it works: You tell a friend about your ForeGolf clubs. When they come to be custom fitted, they mention your name and we make you a member of ForeGolf Pass it On. Only members can access rewards like this, all you have to do is tell someone they should play with clubs built by the World Clubmaker of the Year too.

Greg Norman broke the mould when he designed the links course at Doonbeg along the Co. Clare coast-line and stands in testament to what a great golfing mind can create. The par 72 course with postage stamp par-3’s jutting out into the ocean and one of deepest bunkers we have ever seen this links will put you and your guest to the test. It wasn’t named Golf World -Top 100 courses in the world for nothing.

Once you and your friend have battled the course it will be time to kick back and quite literally “sink” into the luxury of The Lodge at Doonbeg with an overnight, breakfast and dinner in the European Golf Resort of the Year 2010. When you wake up the next day and just so you can leave the resort after giving it your all there’s another round of golf thrown in.

Well, if there’s one place that needs no introduction it’s the Old Head Golf Links in Kinsale. A golf course on its own strip of land sitting 40 foot out of the Atlantic Ocean should be enough to wet anyone’s golfing appetite. You and your “best” friend will enjoy a 2-ball on one of Ireland's most impressive golf courses, don't forget to bring the camera.

After you have enjoyed all that is The Old Head you will retire into the town of Kinsale where you will stay as guests of the now famous White Lady Hotel. Here Roman and Anthony will take the very best care of you with dinner in the restaurant and you can swap stories of the Old Head in their golf themed bar with golfing paraphernalia from all around the world.

Some customers will remember we've held the ForeGolf Invitational at Old Head Golf Links in previous years, take a look at some of the spectacular photos and more photos.

While Tiger Woods posts a big win, ForeGolf holds its own at The Chevron World Challenge.

While Tiger Woods rolled in the final putt to take the win at Sherwood CC last month, we were watching the leader-board at The Chevron but not the normal leader-board. We were watching the winners of last years Pro-Am who were looking good to take the title again this year. Team ForeGolf aka John Carr and Dave O’Reilly were unfortunate to be nudged into 2nd place by Ricky Barnes’ team by just one shot and had to settle for the runners up spot with hockey legend Wayne Gretzky and Lynn Swann and PGA Tour pro Gary Woodland.

John and Dave have been long time clients of ForeGolf and play with a combination of custom Taylor Made and Cleveland clubs.

It’s always great to see ForeGolf clubs playing so well all over the world and especially at one of the biggest tournaments of the year.

ForeGolf, now building better golfers at Killeen Castle.

Our build schedule is most definitely the boss of ForeGolf and it's demanding a bigger workbench and more space to put all the components we need to make your golf clubs.

So we've made a few changes, we have a new location in The Long Game Academy at Killeen Castle. We've opened up the WorkShop, you can now visit inside and see all the club building action separated only by a floor to ceiling glass wall. Next door, Derek and Dave custom fit in a ClubRoom that opens straight onto the practice ground.

We've got the same phone number 045 430 660 and www.foregolf.ie will be updated soon, our favourite photographer is on standby waiting for the paint to dry. We've a few bits and pieces to finish, so bear with us during our move.

Come say hello, meet our new neighbours and see our new home at Killeen Castle Golf Club in Co Meath.

Friday 16th December - Red Lane Office open for collections

Monday 19th December - Red Lane Office Closed & ForeGolf at Killeen Castle is open

Update: You can see the new WorkShop and ClubRoom in the photo gallery

Big Break is a programme that aired in the US on The Golf Channel, a sort of The Apprentice meets golf. This year Big Break, was filmed at The K Club where a group of 12 golfers compete through different golf skill tests, a golfer gets knocked out after each round and a finale 18 holes of match-play. Tommy "two guns" Gainey won Big Break a few years ago and earned over 2 million dollars last year on Tour after his win allowed him two invites out on Tour. This years winner of Big Break gets an invite to play in The Irish Open and The Moroccan Open and $50,000 plus a number of other sponsorship deals.

Mark Murphy from Waterville is this years Big Break Champion and has been a long-time friend of ForeGolf, in fact he's been coming to see us since the early days back in 2000 when the shop was in Naas. Mark, since turning pro has tried his hand at many tournaments both in Europe and over in the US where he now lives. He plays with ForeGolf clubs that have special lucky shamrocks on the heads.

Well done Murph, we're delighted that those clubs did the job and we look forward to seeing you out on Tour next year.

Forget the doom agus gloom, here's good Irish news instead

We always ask people to stay in touch and let us know how they're getting on ...

S May

Just wanted to send you a testimonial for your site I’m so chuffed with my new clubs. Just had my first hole in one ever after 20 years playing at the 17th hole at Moyvalley, 160 yards with my new Cobra S3 8iron. I would have normally been hitting 6 iron using my old set. I've gained yards and accuracy right through the set. Though my hole in one, was of course very lucky, I played the back 9 in level par 36 shots for 24 points off my 12 handicap which is a level of consistency i always dreamed of.

I've had lessons and swing changes and practiced at the range for hours over the years but no one change has helped my game better than my new ForeGolf clubs.

Thanks guys

A large box of Cobra top secret goodies arrived in to the office so we could take a look at their lineup for Spring 2012. All we are allowed to say, is that in true Cobra Puma Golf style, you will not be disappointed. If you are into your colour and design, then this range will impress and have you strutting up the fairways in style. Keep an eye out for our full review very soon.

They have taken the cool and funky edge from Puma and hosed down the new range of Cobra clubs with it.

Three new driver designs with some great looking designs and features.

We recently had a fitting session with a golfer, who couldn't understand, why guys half his size and strength hit the ball further than him?

Well the body works like a lever, he couldnt hit the ball further becuase his clubs simply wouldnt let him. They were too short, which meant his body wasnt able to stay tall, turn and create enough leverage to harness his potential swing power.

Ex Irish Rugby International and most capped Irish player Malcolm O'Kelly took a trip to ForeGolf recently to get his golf game sorted out. Standing at 6ft 8" and with the strength of two small towns, the challange for us was to get the club long enough to stand up to the ball but strong enough to deal with his powerful swing.

Malcolm is actually left handed and his previous clubs were far too short and flexible. This meant he developed a V shape to his swing - where he lifted up and hit down on the ball instead of turning. The energy was going straight into the ground, so for a very strong guy he hit it fairly short.

We immediatley called on TaylorMade to come up with a special weighting request from their R11 range of irons and woods. Lighter heads ment we could make them long but still keep the balance in the clubs. We used the Dynamic Gold SuperLight shaft in his irons and Miyazaki in his woods where we had lightweight but strong shafts custom made for him. Taking the size of his hands in to consideration, we used a Golf Pride Jumbo Tour Velvet to help him keep a better grip and also helped with the balance of the clubs.

With the added length, reduction in weight and stiffer flex, Malcolm now stands taller turns better and hits the ball much, much longer and straighter.

Now that Malcolm has retired from rugby, at least he can continue winning out on the fairways with his ForeGolf clubs.

We always ask people to stay in touch and let us know how they're getting on ...

G. Woods

I couldn’t recommend custom fitting or the lads at ForeGolf highly enough. I got my clubs fitted about 8 weeks back. It is really reassuring to know that my clubs are built for my swing. I have now won 2 competitions on my home course (Concra Wood) since you re- tweaked the irons so I am tickled pink. Can't believe the difference that the lie angle adjustment has made to the ball flight and my clubs now feel like a natural extension of my arm. I cannot believe the difference that the custom fitting has made and I am now a true believer and convert. The wedge feels great, so I will drop my sand-wedge and lob wedge down to you shortly.

We've had a couple of email questions in the ForeGolf inbox about launch monitors and the data or numbers they produce.

Every machine from Trackman to Vector has been touted as the “BEST” machine for getting the correct numbers. Tour players use them, top golf companies test with them and even TV production companies use them to get shot data for their live broadcasts.

The normal club golfer has lately become obsessed with the data from these machines and it’s starting to be more important to get the “right” numbers rather than the right club.

Amateur golfers should really focus on their individual course stats and not their golf equipment stats. On Tour there is a firm focus on playing stats like percentage of fairways in regulation and putts per round. Focusing on how fast your ball speed is dangerous, if your fairways in regulation is not good.

We use a Flightscope X2 and before that a MATT-I machine. So what do we use it for? Well essentially all the machines do the same thing. The information they produce on what the ball is doing and in turn what the player has done helps us to back up what we see in the air.

We use the machine mainly to check three parts of the ball flight (1) Ball Speed (2) Launch Angle (3) Spin Rate

These three factors determine - distance and can highlight a certain amount of flight control.

We would check these numbers - to make sure we are close to the optimum factors for each golfer’s ability or to help explain our findings.

So, the question is "why do people need to focus on what these numbers are" ? The truth is they don’t and it won’t make any difference to the success of the fitting or whether the club will work or not!

What is important, is how the club is built to match you.

Well, it’s a bit like the ingredients of your favourite cake. You know you like the cake and when you eat it you enjoy the taste so do you really need to know what it’s made of? Will this new found knowledge somehow make the cake taste better?

I remember working on Tour and while being trained in the US my tutor was very reluctant to let me near a launch monitor. He said I would not develop the “eye” for the ball and he was right.

He also said that "the use of a launch monitor as the only route to success will leave the technician “one dimensional” and “detached” from the players real needs".

The machine cannot fit for feel nor can it do anything other then what you tell it. The numbers say the club is perfect but the player cannot feel the head nor does he like the look and colour of it – in that case do the numbers really matter?

Golfers are getting lost in the stats and are missing the important things like how the club is built and the quality of the build. If the fitting session and the results revolve around the stats and then the club is built wrong – the numbers don’t matter.

A better use of the stats of ball speed and spin, is to determine the best golf ball to use. Many golfers are using the wrong golf ball and these stats of speed be analysed to determine the right type of ball for your game.

Launch monitors in the right hands can be very helpful, but they won’t make hitting the ball any easier or better. It’s the interpretation of the data; the quality of shaft component and how the club is built, that will make you hit the ball better and more consistently.

Ultimately, It’s the club-maker that makes the ball flight better, not the machine.

-Derek

We took delivery of the new Spider Ghost putter and after a quick weight adjustment in the special weight ports that allow for customization of the balance to suit stroke and green speed we took the putters for the ultimate road test. The Old Head Golf Links on greens at 12.5 on the stimp. The perfectly balanced head and the extra weight made this putter unbelievably solid and it swallowed up the greens at The Old Head. If you can handle the spaceship look of the head this is by far the best putter we have ever tested and makes putting on any greens a cinch.

If you’re struggling with your putting, give us a shout so we can get you the right length, weight and grip to suit you and your greens.

Putter Fittings, during our 1 hour custom fit analysis session, we can take a look at your putter within the full bag check that costs €100. We will look at your putter and advise you the best length, lie and design. You just need to tell us about your putter at time of booking so we can structure your session accordingly.

The most unbelievable golfing feat has happened with one of our customers and her brand new custom made golf clubs.

18 year old, 4 handicapper Emily McGuinness stood over the 119 yard par-3 hole at Murvagh Golf Club in Co. Donegal on her practice round for the Irish Girls’ Close Championship. She measured up the yardage in her mind and pulled her Taylor Made Burner 2.0 8 iron and low and behold, flushed it in the hole.

Delighted and thrilled with the result, she figured it was more a 9 iron distance so pulling the club, she took dead aim and holed that as well. TWO hole – in-one’s with two different clubs, at the same hole, one after another.

Emily's dad Ger got in touch and sent us the photo of the legendary shots That’s got to be a record. Well done Emily, we're glad we were able to give you the clubs that created the magic shots.

ForeGolf are the only guys in Europe to get the Cleveland Golf / Srixon heads in component, so we can build them exactly how we want them to perform. We went all the way to the USA to secure the rights on the new Miyazaki shafts. We are the official and only stockist of Miyazaki shafts in Ireland.

It proves, that we not only take our business very seriously, but we can really sniff out a top performing product.

We also went to True Temper about the new Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts and managed to get them also. They are basically one of the most consistent shafts available from True Temper with matched weights and higher levels of control and consistency.

So, just to prove that we are spot on with getting the very best products for our clients, guess what the most recent winner of the PGA Championship had in the bag? The Cleveland Tour guys sent us "Keegan Bradley - what’s in the bag” We’ll say no more

Hey ForeGolf, here are the tools Keegan used to win the PGA Championship:

DRIVER: Cleveland Launcher Ultra-Lite TL 310 (10.5°) with a Miyazaki Kusala 61 shaft

FAIRWAY WOOD: Cleveland Launcher FL (14°) with a Miyazaki Kusala 83 shaft

HYBRIDS: Cleveland Launcher DST (18°) with a Project X XHB6 shaft; Mashie TM3 (20.5°) with a Miyazaki C Kua 105 shaft

IRONS: Cleveland CG7 Tour (4-PW) with True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue shafts

Derek recently reviewed the new Cleveland Launcher models for Golf Digest Ireland Magazine.

The week of the Irish Open threw up all sorts of unexpected scenarios and with our great friend Colm Moriarity showing some great form, Derek managed to get sucked in to the search for a new 3 wood and putter for GMac.

Derek travelled down to Killarney early on the Tuesday morning of tournament week to hook up with The Cleveland Golf/Srixon Tour Truck. Iain and Mike Moberg were already on board and the search for the elusive fairway wood was in the closing stages after a 3 week pursuit for the tour technicians. It came down to a 5.15am start on the Wednesday of Irish Open week where Graeme’s new cross between a 3 wood and a 4 wood which we nicknamed “The Thor” wood came to ahead. Derek was called out to the course to give a 3rd eye view of the flight and all hands were on deck to make sure the flight and spin on the new wood was satisfactory for GMac. His very special putter was flown in from Never Compromise in the US with his catchy saying “Fill ‘er up” stamped on the sole and the GMac etched clearly on the hosel. The putter performed well in practice and looks like this one of a kind model will not only stay in the bag but could start a whole GMac range of clubs in the future.

Graeme also has a brand new charity that he has just launched and a new front panel was sent through to be put on the bag. Along with choosing new Srixon military shaped hats, the signing of caps and wedges for a charity gig and everything that goes with being a former Major winner Gmac was his usual positive self while he chatted on the truck and sipped his favourite Mountain Dew soda drink. Derek managed to catch up with a lot of old mates and did a little bit of work for David Howell, Mark Murphy, Shane Lowry and Ritchie McEvoy. After a very busy two days he managed to jump in the van and get back to Naas, happy that he had made a very positive contribution to the players he saw at The Irish Open.
