Send a friend to ForeGolf and play for free at The Old Head
Its that time of year again, The ForeGolf Invitational at The Old Head of Kinsale is set for Saturday 13th August 2011. We've been tracking names since last August and everyone who sends a friend gets an auto entry to the draw to play at the event. You send us your friends, we pick up the tab for lunch and golf at The Old Head.
We wanted to remind you to keep passing on our name and telling people who built your clubs - but remind them to mention your name when they book in.
Last years winner Owen Bonner will get an automatic invite, the rest of you keep spreading the word !
Here's photos from last August, hopefully we'll see you there this year.
How many wedges are best ?
This is a question we got sent recently and we thought it would be a good one to answer
Question: "For 10 H/Cap, how many wedges are best. Keep it simple with just pitching wedge and another of loft? OR have 3 in all and what lofts? Is there need of fitting for say Titleist Vokey wedges, (I am 5ft 10ins) or are they all standard. Thanks.
Well firstly the old handicap won’t have much bearing on the wedge you use. I usually recommend a three wedge system which is PW (48*), a strong SW for chipping at 54* and a soft lob style wedge at 58* which can be used for bunkers as well.
There is every need for a fitting as all the normal things apply like shaft, shaft length, balance weight, lie, etc. We also can fit for bounce which is very important to match to style of hit and swing plane as well as matching to the different course conditions.
Your height isn’t all that important but rather your arm length in relation to your leg length and nothing in your bag should be standard as there is no such thing as a standard size or standard person. Everyone is different from strength to size to skill level so nothing in this world can be standard. Wedge fitting is one of the most important factors of the game.

Driver versus 3 Wood
We had another good question come in to us via twitter @foregolfcustom the other day
QUESTION: "I have a ball speed of about 160mph but my 3 wood goes furtherthan my Driver. Can you explain how this is possible" ?
No problem. You are struggling with spin and launch from your driver which is due to your swing style and I suspect the loft and maybe the shaft profile of your current driver is incorrect for you. If you had a normal ball flight then your 3 wood would have a high ball flight and then your driver with the added length of shaft and lower ball flight would go further.
The reason your 3 wood goesfurther than your driver is down to launch and more spin from the loft of the 3 wood head and the added aided flight from the shaft. Essentially the added spin and launch from your 3 wood specifications is making the ball fly better and stays in the air for longer and is going further than your drive.
The solution: a more lofted driver and softer tip shaft profile to increase spin and launch angle. We would really need to see you for a custom fitting analysis to be absolutely sure.

What happens when BodySmart, John Kelly and ForeGolf collide?
We recently joined up with the Power Plate experts - BodySmart to measure the results from a complete training workout run in conjunction with Harrington Golfs PGA Professional and TPI expert - John Kelly. This isn’t the first time we’ve worked with John and as if it isn’t enough to be Europe’s most advanced TPI Instructor he’s a really nice bloke as well.
Morgan Pierce from BodySmart already knew the benefits from the PowerPlate exercise system but reckoned if it was applied with the correct golf specific programme it would be a winner. Well she couldn’t have been more right with huge improvements in flexibility, power and overall yardage.
We measured the results before and after, as Eamon O'Carroll said "it was an amazing experience, these people are experts. It was very enjoyable and gradually the improvements came." Eamon who won the overall competition – with a yardage gain of over 30 yards with his driver won himself a sparkling new set of ForeGolf custom fitted Titleist clubs. Well done Eamonn, more power to ya!
BodySmart can advise a number of body conditioning fitness programmes for you and are located at Grand Canal Square and Mount Merrion in Dublin, Naas, Galway and Cork.
Liam Kelly has explained it far better then we ever could - read his article from The Irish Independent.
